Bank Of America Website Slows After Islamic Hacker Threats

USWNN - Bank of America website has recently experienced intermittent threats of cyber attacks to protest the video about Muhammad that has caused riot in the Middle East. Other U.S. banks could also be found in a similar situation.

"Cyber fighters of Izz ad-din Al qassam" who claimed to represent cyber attacks declare that Bank of America and the New York Stock Exchange will be attacked as the "first step" in a campaign against the properties of the "American and Zionist capitalists" .

"This attack will continue until you clear this repugnant film," said the statement posted on the Internet site pastebin.com. In it, hackers often post such threats. It was not possible to verify the identity of the person who released the statement.

A movie that makes fun of the Prophet Muhammad, and that was done with private funding in the U.S. and on the Internet, has generated protests in the Islamic world, Africa, Asia and some western countries.

Bank of America said its website is available but some customers may experience occasional slowness to navigate the site. "We are working to ensure full availability (site)," said bank spokesman, Mark Pipitone.

When asked if the website had been the victim of a denial of service attack, the official did not answer but reaffirmed the security system of the company. "I can tell you that we continually take proactive measures to ensure our systems." The New York Stock Exchange, operated by NYSE Euronext, declined to comment.

Customers of Bank of America who were contacted by Reuters in New York, Georgia, Ohio and Michigan said they could not access the portal.
